By 2025, all EU Member States (and Norway) must offer an “identity wallet” to their citizens. One that the “citizen can use anywhere in Europe to do anything from paying your taxes to renting a bicycle”, as Commission President Ursula von der Leyen phrased it when the idea was launched in 2020.
